Elementary Schools Prepare to Welcome Students

Students attending Westerville City Schools, in grades 1 - 5, will begin classes on Tuesday, August 13.  Elementary schools in the district will provide an opportunity for each family to learn of their child’s teacher/class placement for the 2019-2020 school year. 

The Westerville City School District is collecting Emergency Medical and Parent Permission information through the PowerSchool Parent Portal, which should open by August 1.  All forms should be completed online, including the Emergency Medical Form, the Student Code of Conduct, the Publicity Consent Form, and the Walking Field Trip form.  Parents and guardians of returning students should have already created a PowerSchool Parent Portal account to access student information.  Please contact your school office if you have forgotten your login information or if you have a student new to the district and have not yet created your account. 

Fees must be paid prior to or during Back to School Days.  Payment can be made through EZPay, check, cash, or money order. 

Elementary school supply lists for the 2019-2020 school year are now available on the Westerville Schools website.  These can be accessed from a link on the district’s home page as well as from each school’s home page.  Go to www.wcsoh.org/backtoschool for details. 

• Alcott Elementary Back-to-School Days will take place on August 7 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.  A School Walk-Through is scheduled for August 12 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Kindergarten Parent Orientation is also scheduled for August 12 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.  Curriculum Night for grades 1-5 is slated for August 29 from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. (2^nd grade - 5:00 p.m.; 1^st grade - 5:30 p.m.; 3^rd grade - 6:00 p.m.; 4^th grade - 6:30 p.m.; and 5^th grade - 7:00 p.m.).

• Annehurst Back to School Day is Wednesday, August 7 from 10:00 a.m. - noon; and 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.  At Back to School Day fees may be paid, lunch money can be added to student accounts, and class assignments will be given.  Computers will be available for those who need to complete lunch applications.  The Annehurst PTA will have information available regarding membership and upcoming activities.  In addition, Westerville Library, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will have representatives here to answer questions.  Meet the Teacher is Monday, August 12 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.  Feel free to bring your school supplies with you.  Curriculum Night for parents of students in Kindergarten is Tuesday, August 27, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.  Curriculum Night for Grades 1 - 5 is Thursday, August 29.  Parents of students in grades 1 and 2 will meet from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.; parents of students in grades 3 - 5 will meet from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. 

• Cherrington Elementary welcomes new and returning families to Back to School Days on August 5 from 10:00 a.m. - noon; and from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.  During these times fees may be paid, class assignments will be given, and lunch money can be added to accounts. Families can learn about school activities and opportunities for the upcoming year.  A school walk through will take place August 12 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.  On August 29, a Curriculum Night will take place for the entire school from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.  

• Emerson World Cultures Magnet School Back to School Days will be held on August 6 from 10:00 a.m. - noon and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Emerson families are invited to walk through the building and meet the teachers on August 12 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Curriculum night for grades 4 and 5 will be on August 28 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.  Curriculum Night for grades 1, 2, and 3 will be held on August 29 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.  There will be plenty of parking available on the playground.  Students and families are also invited to attend the Emerson PTA Back to School Social that will be held on August 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on the playground.

• Fouse Elementary School will hold Back to School Day on August 6 from 10:00 a.m. - noon and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.  During these times, money can be added to lunch accounts and class assignments will be given.  Families may also choose to pay school fees at this time.  Computers will be available for those who need to complete lunch applications and required forms.  Families may come to either session.  During Open House on August 12 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., families are invited to walk through the building, drop off supplies, and meet their child(ren)’s teachers.  The Fouse PTO will also be on hand in the cafeteria to share ways in which parents and volunteers can be involved with school.  The Fouse PTO will also sponsor its annual Back to School Picnic on the Fouse lawn on Sunday, August 18, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Kindergarten Parent Night will take place at 6:30 p.m. on August 12.  Curriculum Night for grades 1 and 2 is August 20 at 6:30 p.m.  Curriculum night for grades 3, 4 and 5 will take place at 6:30 p.m. on August 27.  

• Robert Frost Elementary School will hold Back to School Days on Wednesday, August 7.  On that day, families may come anytime between 10:00 a.m. - noon or 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. to pay school fees, learn their child’s(ren’s) assigned teacher(s) and receive information about the coming school year.  Frost families are invited to walk through the building and meet teachers on August 12 anytime between 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.  Kindergarten Parent Orientation and Curriculum Night will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7.  Curriculum Night for parents of students in grades 1 - 5 will all be held on August 20; 1^st grade at 5:00 p.m.; 2^nd grade at 5:30 p.m.; 3^rd grade at 6:00 p.m.; 4^th grade at 6:30 p.m.; and 5^th grade at 7:00 p.m.

• Hanby Magnet Elementary School will host Back to School Day on Tuesday, August 6 from 10:00 a.m. - noon and 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.  At this time, students will learn their classroom assignments.  Computers will be available in order for online lunch applications to be completed.  PTA representatives will also be present with information about the upcoming school year.  Meet the Teacher day will be held on Monday, August 12 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Curriculum night will take place for all parents on August 15:  grades 1 - 3 will begin at 5:30 p.m. and grades 4 and 5 will start at 6:45 p.m.  The PTA will host a Back to School Picnic at Alum Creek North on September 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

• Hawthorne Elementary Back to School Day will take place on August 6 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; and 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Back to School Day will allow parents the opportunity to pay their fees and find out their child's classroom assignment.  Hawthorne’s Meet the Teacher event will be held on August 12 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.  This is a great time to not only meet your child’s teacher but also drop off any school supplies to the classroom.  Curriculum Nights for Hawthorne will run from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., based on grade level, as follows.  4^th grade, 5:00 p.m.; 2^nd grade, 5:30 p.m.; 3^rd grade, 6:00 p.m.; 1^st grade, 6:30 p.m.; and 5^th grade, 7:00 p.m.  Kindergarten Parent Orientation will be held on August 12 at 6:30 p.m.

• Huber Ridge Elementary School will hold one Back to School Day on Monday, August 5 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.  On Monday, August 12, from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m., families are invited to attend Huber Ridge’s Meet the Teacher Event, during which time students and parents can drop-off supplies, meet their teacher, and see their classroom.  Kindergarten Parent Orientation will also take place on Monday, August 12, at 7:00 p.m.  Curriculum Night for all grades K-5 will be held on Thursday, August 29 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

• Longfellow Elementary School will host Back to School Day on Wednesday, August 7 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.  Parents may come to either session.  During these times, parents will attend an orientation meeting and pay fees. Computers will be available for those who need to complete lunch applications and/or the parent portal.  Kindergarten Gentle Start will be held on August 13, 14 or 15.  A letter will be mailed to each family in late July with the assigned date.  Transportation is not provided for Gentle Start.  The first day of kindergarten is Friday, August 16.   

• McVay Elementary will host its “Back to School Days” on Monday, August 5 from 10:00 a.m. - noon or 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.  During these times, fees will be paid and class assignments will be shared.  Computers will also be available for those who need to complete lunch applications.  Families are welcome to attend either session.  A “Meet the Teacher, Open House” will be held on Monday, August 12 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. The PTA will host a Playground Party at 3:30 p.m.  Kindergarten Parent Orientation will take place on Monday, August 8 at 6:30 p.m.  Curriculum Nights for grades 1-5 will be held on Thursday, August 29.  Grades 1-3 will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. and grades 4 and 5 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

• Pointview Elementary Back to School Days will take place on August 5 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.  During this time, parents will be able to sign up for PTA, receive directions to update all forms on PowerSchool, and learn their grades 1-5 child’s classroom assignment.  Open House for grades 1-5 will be held on August 12 from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.  This is a great time for families to come and meet their child’s teacher, take a sneak peek at the classrooms and drop off school supplies.  Curriculum Night for grades 1-5 will be held on September 12 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  Curriculum Night/Open House for Kindergarten will be August 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  At this time, families will learn their child’s classroom assignment and have time to hear from their child’s teacher.

• Mark Twain Elementary Back to School Days will take place on Wednesday, August 7, from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.  Meet the Teacher Open House will be held on Monday, August 12, for grades K-5 from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.  Curriculum Night is scheduled on Wednesday, August 21, at 5:00 p.m. for 5^th grade, 5:30 p.m. for 1^st grade, 6:00 p.m. for 2^nd grade, 6:30 p.m. for 3^rd grade, and 7:00 p.m. for 4^th grade.  Kindergarten will be starting at 5:30 p.m.

• Whittier’s Back to School registration is planned for August 7 from 10:00 a.m. - noon and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.  Kindergarten Parent Orientation will take place on August 8 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.  Meet the Teacher Open House will be held on Monday, August 12, from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Curriculum Night will be held September 5 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. for grades 1-5.  Grade level teachers will present the same information during both sessions.

• Back-to-School at Wilder Elementary will take place on Wednesday, August 7, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  “Meet the Teacher” is Monday, August 12, from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Please bring school supplies.  Curriculum Nights are scheduled on Thursday, August 29, for grades 3, 4, and 5, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.; and Thursday, September 5, for grades Kindergarten, 1, and 2, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  To accommodate parents with multiple students, teachers will present two identical sessions each evening (6:00 - 6:40 p.m. and 6:50 - 7:30 p.m.).
