Sunday, December 9, proved to be a perfect day for the Westerville Lions Club Rudolph 5K Run/Walk, which was sponsored by Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The sun shone brightly on all 449 participants, some of whom were there to take part in the Elementary School Challenge, open to students age 12 and under. Participating Westerville schools included Alcott, Cherrington, Fouse, Hawthorne, Mark Twain, Pointview, Robert Frost and Whittier. A $400 cash prize was issued to the parent organization of Mark Twain, the school with the overall best times. Robert Frost runners came in second and Fouse was third.
Proceeds from the race cover most of the costs to produce the Westerville Lions Children’s Christmas Parade. Excess money from the run and parade benefit the Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank and the Ohio Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.
