Crossing Borders Project Coordinator Laurie VanBalen speaks with students at Emerson Elementary School.

Crossing Borders Project Coordinator Laurie VanBalen visited Hanby and Emerson elementary schools recently to talk with students about artwork from the Crossing Borders exhibit.  She asked them to think about the theme of home, and what that means to each individual.  The children then created a drawing and wrote a sentence explaining how their artwork is a reflection of home.  They signed their work in sharpie and then added liquid watercolor to their piece.  Their papers will be combined to form a collective class quilt that will be on display during an evening arts event on November 7.

Fifth graders also began a districtwide Canvases Crossing Buildings project by working with liquid watercolor and adding a wash to the background.  These canvases will travel throughout elementary schools in Westerville to be signed by each student contributor.  They, too, will be displayed on November 7.  Details will be forthcoming.
