Westerville South High School Names Erick Herzberg as Head Girls Basketball Coach

Westerville South High School (WSHS) Athletic Director Josh DeVoll today announced that Erick Herzberg has been selected as Head Coach of the Girls Basketball Program, pending Board of Education approval on September 24, 2018.

“With over 15 years of coaching experience, Erick is a highly respected member of the basketball coaching community, not only for his basketball knowledge, but as educator and leader,” DeVoll said.  “He has an extensive knowledge and understanding of basketball and has proven himself to be a valuable leader in previous programs.”

A screening committee consisting of coaches, teachers and support staff reviewed the resumes of 10 applicants and subsequently forwarded three candidates to the Interview Committee.  In addition to being outstanding coaches, those forwarded for consideration were classroom teachers.  Following the withdrawal of one candidate, the Interview Committee met with the remaining two candidates and recommended Herzberg for the position.  The Interview Committee consisted of school administration, teachers, coaches, and support staff.

In addition to serving as Varsity Head Girls Basketball Coach at Linden McKinley High School in the Columbus City Schools, Herzberg teaches Modern World History, Psychology/Sociology, American History and Government.  He also completed head a coaching stint for the Girls Varsity Basketball Program at Lakewood High School.  He received the 2007 & 2016 District 10 Coaches Award for his winning percentage and earned honors as the 2016 City League Coach of the Year.  “We’re excited about finding a person of Erick’s caliber as an educator and coach to help propel our Girls Basketball Program to the next level,” DeVoll said.  “He’s passionate about helping young people reach their goals, on and off the court.”
