Westerville North Pupils Sign Letters of Intent to Row at Collegiate Level

Friends, family members, teammates, coaches, teachers and administrators gathered in the Gallery at Westerville North High School on Wednesday afternoon, May 16, to watch and celebrate as Ben Heckathorn and Aidan Moran signed Letters of Intent to continue their education and row at the collegiate level. 

Heckathorn, a senior at Westerville North, will be joining the rowing team at Marietta College in the fall of 2018.  He began rowing for Westerville Crew in the fall of 2016.  He has received medals at the Head of the Ohio and the Head of the Cuyahoga, as well as a number of other competitions.  He has also been involved in the band program at North, where he has played in the Wind Ensemble and lettered in Marching Band.  Heckathorn is active in his church and has participated in several mission trips, serving people in New Orleans, Guatemala and North Andros Island.  He plans to major in Chemistry at Marietta.

Moran is a senior at Westerville North High School.  He has rowed with Westerville Crew for five years, starting the summer before eighth grade.  He competed in the youth coxed eight at the Head of the Charles in 2017 and 2018, along with other regional regattas where he finished among the top competitors.  Moran was also a member of the Westerville North concert band and orchestra.  He will be rowing for Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan.  Moran also plans to study chemistry and continue playing cello in the orchestra.
