Chess Champions Compete at District Middle School Tournament

Winners of school-wide competitions competed in the Middle School District Chess Tournament on May 8, hosted by Walnut Springs Middle School.  A double elimination bracket and competitive matches made for an exciting event.  Sixth grader A.J. Boyd from Genoa Middle School earned first place.  Walnut Springs seventh grade student Grant Schneider took second place after competing in a tiebreaking match with sixth grade Heritage pupil Sammy Gurgiolo, who came in third.  Blendon eighth grader Bryce Goff was fourth. 

Marv McDaniel served as judge and the event was sponsored by the Westerville City Schools Gifted Education Department.  

Chess is a researched-based way to have fun and making friends from all backgrounds, develop logical thinking, improve concentration and memory, and promote imagination and creativity.
