Westerville South High School student Leo Fagge will be competing in the National Invention Convention May 31- June 2, thanks in part to a $650 scholarship he received from Support for Talented Students (www.supportfortalentedstudents.org ).  More than 400 young inventors are expected to show off their creations at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.  Sixty-nine winners will be chosen (three per grade level), along with others in special categories.

Fagge won the State Competition last summer, which was held at the Ohio State Fair, in the Manufacturing Industry category.  His invention is a Clay 3D Printer, which he discovered by using a laser to turn clay slip into hardened clay.  His first prototype moved the laser manually, but the new version moves the laser on an x-y axis.  Movement can be programmed through a Raspberry Pi.  He plans to update his board to accommodate these improvements, but the basic design will stay the same.  Learn more about the National Invention Convention at www.Stemie.org.
