Westerville North High School held its first annual All-Sports Recognition Ceremony for winter 2017-18 athletes on Wednesday evening, March 21. Parents, student-athletes, North administrators, and winter head coaches were on hand as awards were announced in front of a filled Warrior Performing Arts Center. Numerous winter student-athletes received scholar-athlete awards for earning a 3.3 or higher grade point average (GPA) for the second quarter of the 2017-18 school year. Girls’ swim/dive won the team GPA award with a collective 3.90 GPA average. Boys basketball player Julian Malone won the “Comeback Warrior” award, given by the North athletic training staff to a winter athlete who suffered a tough injury or setback, yet battled back to join their team with perseverance and a team-first mentality. The “Warrior Identity” award went to four winter athletes who showed great coachability, commitment, and a consistent attitude and effort – Ryan Hensley (bowling), Noah Voorhies (boys basketball), Amanda Bentivegna (girls basketball), and Janessa Mathews (swimming). Members of the Warrior Athlete Leadership Team nominated the “Warrior Identity” award finalists. Each winter program’s head coach also shared a special award for their team.
