On February 17, Westerville community members, teachers, business representatives and leaders bowled to support three local causes at the 18th annual Westerville Community Bowl-A-Thon.  This fun, friendly and sometimes competitive afternoon of bowling was hosted by the Westerville Scholarship Foundation, the Westerville Education Foundation and the Westerville Symphony.  The three non-profit organizations utilize money generated by the Bowl-A-Thon to fund scholarships to students of all ages, provide grants to educators and offer musical performances and programs to classrooms in Westerville.

More than 525 bowlers, volunteers and guests were present at the event.  Alliance Data sent 29 teams of five players.  “One of Alliance Data’s core values is to give back to the communities where our associates work and live and we are pleased to participate in an event that supports education initiatives in our community,” said Kevin Kovacs.  Alliance brought nearly 150 bowlers to the event (an increase of 50 from 2017).

Fourteen teams from Mount Carmel St. Ann’s were present and Westerville City Schools was represented on 24 lanes.  Ten principals bowled in the Principal Challenge, which was won by Hanby Principal Monica Brown, whose school donated $1,042 to the event because of her Principal for a Day fundraiser and other activities.  The Golden Pin was awarded to Mike Farrar of Central Ohio Primary Care for winning the Executive Challenge.  He bowled an impressive 248.  Two guests won pizza-for-a-year certificates courtesy of Papa Johns, and all participants received event t-shirts, thanks to Status Solutions.

The Westerville Scholarship Foundation, the Westerville Education Foundation and the Westerville Symphony will each be receiving $10,000.

Bowl-A-Thon organizers thank the Westerville Amateur Soccer Association for being its presenting sponsor and the 85 Westerville City School students who hand painted bowling pins for the event.
