Alek Downs, a senior at Westerville North High School, committed on February 7 to play football for the Air Force Academy.  His honors include 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-District, 3rd Team All-State, 2018 Football MVP, Scholar-Athlete Award and The Ernie Godfrey Scholar-Athlete Award for the OCC-2018.

Downs is the youngest of four brothers who all played football for North (Luke ’13, Jake ’15 and Derek ’17).  Derek Downs is an offensive tackle at Bowling Green State University.  Alek is also on the WALT Leadership Team and is deeply involved in Xenos Christian Fellowship.  He feels fortunate he had the opportunity to play for the Westerville North coaches who have inspired him and pushed him to be the player he is today.

Downs feels Air Force is a perfect fit for him.  He said, “I chose to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy because this opportunity encapsulates my beliefs in hard work, integrity and perseverance.  It provides me the greatest platform to impact people in my community and abroad.  I believe God opened this door of opportunity for me.  I intend to honor him through it by continuing to be the man he created me to be.”
