Mrs. Pyke’s Penguins gather at the Cinemark Stoneridge Plaza Movies 16 theater complex to experience an advanced screening of “Wonder.”
Whitney Pyke’s third grade students at Robert Frost Elementary School have been working hard this year to become a Certified Kind Classroom through a program sponsored by Lions Gate Entertainment Inc. Most recently, the children engaged in study about precepts (or principles) to live by. Lions Gate has just released a movie called Wonder, based on the New York Times bestseller, which tells the uplifting story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time. His parents (Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson) and the director of his new school (Mandy Patinkin) try to ease his transition, but Auggie just wants to convince his new classmates that he is an average kid.
By participating in a number of kindness activities, Mrs. Pyke’s Penguins, on October 26, got to attend an advanced screening of Wonder in Gahanna, where they had the opportunity to livestream with some cast members. Her students begin each day by saying, “Today I pledge to be the best possible me. I will be kind to myself, to others, and to my community.”
