The 10th calendar month was officially named “SOCKtober” at Westerville South High School this year, as International Baccalaureate (IB) seniors organized and led efforts to raise funds and awareness for LIMBS International.  This organization is committed to providing affordable access to prosthetic limbs for persons in need in developing countries.

The school community is on the cusp of raising enough funds to provide prosthetic legs to two amputees.  This was accomplished through the sale of “fun” socks and many generous donations. Additionally, based on the number of socks sold and donations received, LIMBS International will donate over 100 pairs of socks to South, which will be distributed to local organizations to provide warmth to homeless individuals.

The campaign has been extended through Sunday, November 6.  There is still time to order socks or donate to the cause!  Please visit www.Tinyurl.com/hcy44h4 .

This effort, part of IB’s CAS (Creativity-Activity-Service) Program, “is an excellent example of how students’ learning extends beyond the walls of the classroom and beyond the borders of our nation,” observed IB Coordinator Bill Heinmiller.
