Hamster balls, dodge ball, Gaga Pits, laser tag, Wii games, music, basketball, volleyball, soccer, Skyline Chili cheese dogs, Kona Ice…the list of what Blendon students got to enjoy at their third Quarter Renaissance Celebration goes on and on. Pupils who met stringent goals in academic achievement, community service, attendance, attitude, and school spirit, were treated to a day of fun at Alum Creek Park on April 28, courtesy of the Blendon PTO. Games2U provided the games and Kona Ice the cool treats. As a special reward, Skyline Chili donated free chili cheese coneys for all students and staff members.
Each quarter, at an awards ceremony, qualifying students receive both a certificate for their accomplishment, and a tangible reward donated by various local businesses. For the Third Quarter Blendon Renaissance Awards Program, each child received coupons from Gahanna Lanes Bowling, Raising Canes Chicken (Polaris), Skyline Chili (Westerville location), and Little Caesar’s. In addition, 8th grade students received a 2-for-1 admission coupon to Marcus Theatres.
Blendon continued to celebrate with a variety of wonderful raffle prizes – again donated by local businesses and PTO parents – including Renaissance T-shirts from the Blendon principal, gift cards from Mongolian Grill, Chiller Ice Rinks, City BBQ, Cold Stone Creamery, Columbus Square Bowling Palace, Dairy Queen, Donato’s Pizza, Fazoli’s Italian Restaurant, Graeter’s Ice Cream, Little Caesar’s, Marcus Theatres, Marie Scrambler’s, Old Skool Skateboards, Rita’s Italian Ice, Soccer Plus, Skyline Chili, Westerville Recreation Center, and even former student Christopher Tedeschi – just to name a few. The Grand Prize was a 7-inch digital Android tablet and tablet cover. Following the awards presentation, students spent the rest of the day at the park, having a great time
This school year marks the sixth year of success for the Blendon Renaissance Awards Program, which would not be possible without the continued support of local and national business partners, Blendon parents, and the Blendon PTO.
