On Tuesday, April 12, a crowd gathered at Genoa Middle School in memory of Thomas Knox, a former student, and Don Manley, a retired educator and coach.  Knox, a hockey player at St. Charles, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 14.  Manley was 63 when he died from health complications.

Friends, family members, and colleagues met outside the track to pay tribute.  They were welcomed by teacher Katy Paolini who said that while the two never met, they had much in common, including love of sports and love of family.  Both were bundles of wit and sunshine, she reflected; both were loved by all and neither ever realized what a profound impression they left on others.

Bricks bearing the names of Thomas Knox and Don Manley were placed under the school’s living tree, honoring fallen jaguars.  In conclusion, Taps was played, Memories was sung and balloons were released.
