North’s Morris to Participate in Distinguished Young Women of Ohio Program

Westerville North High School Senior Marissa Morris has been selected as a participant in the 2016 Distinguished Young Women of Ohio program, which will be held the week of February 13 - 20, in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. 

Distinguished Young Women of Ohio is an official preliminary of the Distinguished Women of America nonprofit scholarship program, which was founded on 1958.  The overall winner of the annual competition travels to Mobile, Alabama in June (all expenses paid) to participate in the Distinguished Young Women National Finals.

As a representative from North, Morris will by vying for a portion of more than $17,000 in cash scholarships, in addition to over $1 million in college granted scholarships.  She will be evaluated on her skills during an interview prior to the event and then in the areas of self-expressions, fitness and talent.  For the talent portion, she will be tap dancing.  She is a dance student at Straub dance studio in Westerville.  It is through that studio that she learned of the opportunity to compete in the first place.  When asked how she feels about the opportunity, Morris said she is excited to have the opportunity to earn a scholarship and is looking forward to the experience.
