Keynote speaker David Weaner imparted words of wisdom

Westerville North High School’s Academic Boosters celebrated the hard work of more than 350 students at the 30th annual Academic Awards Banquet, which was held on Tuesday evening, October 20.  Receiving certificates were 25 PSAT All Stars; National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists Brian Randall and Joseph Thompson; Commended Scholars Colin Fugger, Carolyn Keener, Aleax Maxwell, Hannah McKenzie, Bryan Peck and Vidit Singhal; and academically accomplished sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Academic Boosters President Tracey King organized the event, which was made possible with the help of many volunteers.  Principal Kurt Yancey greeted the packed house with words of welcome and congratulations.  And Superintendent John Kellogg said “magic happens” when we see these kind of academic results.

Keynote speaker David Weaner, the Boys Cross Country coach and a retired Westerville North science teacher, encouraged students to keep their minds open.  He learned from his own experience to let some dreams go and to learn from failures.  “Ask people around you for help,” he advised, “And practice gratitude.”

He also suggested the pupils be proactive about whatever they do; travel to understand and gain perspective; and surround themselves with people who share the same passions.
