Blendon Middle School students enjoyed an afternoon of swimming at the Jaycee Pool on Thursday, September 3, as part of the 4th Quarter 2014-2015 Renaissance Awards celebration.  In order to participate, pupils had to meet stringent goals in academic achievement, community service, attendance, attitude, and school spirit.  As an extra-special bonus, Skyline Chili served free chili cheese dogs at the pool.

Each quarter, at an awards ceremony, qualifying students receive both a certificate for their accomplishment and a tangible reward donated by various local businesses.  For the fourth quarter Renaissance program, every child received coupons from First Watch, Skyline Chili, Little Caesar’s Pizza, and Gahanna Lanes Bowling.

A variety of wonderful raffle prizes, also donated by local businesses and PTO parents, were distributed, including Renaissance t-shirts, gift cards from Chiller Ice Rinks, Cold Stone Creamery, Columbus Square Bowling Palace, Dairy Queen, Donato’s Pizza, Fazoli’s Italian Restaurant, Little Caesar’s,  Marcus Theatres, Marie Scrambler’s, Noodles & Company, Rita’s Italian Ice, and the Westerville Recreation Center.  The grand prize was a 7-inch digital tablet.

Following the awards presentation, students spent the rest of the day “chilling” at the Jaycee Pool.  This marks the sixth year Blendon has hosted Renaissance Awards Programs.
