Westerville Central High School Principal Todd Spinner and the staff ended the first day of school for all 9th grade students with a freshmen pep assembly. More than 530 freshmen were in attendance along with junior mentors, senior leaders, varsity cheerleaders and the Warhawk marching band. The goal for the pep rally was to celebrate the largest incoming freshman class in the district and to congratulate them as they completed their first day of high school. The agenda included reminding the freshman about school rules and policies, and learning the fight song and Central cheers. Each freshman received a brand new Warhawk T-shirt. Spinner began and ended the assembly by reminding all freshmen that they need to challenge themselves academically and give 100% in the classroom.
On the second day of school, Friday, August 14, Westerville North High School hosted its annual Senior Ceremony, which took place in the gymnasium. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors watched from the bleachers as each senior received a yellow rose and words of encouragement from Principal Kurt Yancey. Also speaking were class officers. Dozens of senior parents were present as well, to witness the beginning of their children’s senior year, which will culminate on graduation day – Saturday, May 28, 2016.
Westerville South High School greeted its pupils with two dozen new teachers, counselors, and classroom aides, as well as Wildcat red accent paint throughout the building. On Friday each class held a meeting, and the message at each stressed South’s new PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) tenets: Respectful, Responsible, Prepared. “We are excited with our new talented staff members and the fresh ideas they bring to our Wildcat students,” said Principal Steve Andersson. “We look forward to a great year.”
