As part of the Westerville City Schools Global Classroom program, 40 Westerville Central High School students traveled to Scotland and England last month to embark on a discovery of British food, history, literature, music, art and theatre.  Pupils visited the Sherlock Holmes museum in London; Anne Hathaway’s cottage and William Shakespeare’s home in Stratford-on-Avon; and took a Harry Potter walking tour of London and Edinburgh.  They also toured castles and palaces, such as Edinburgh Castle and Hampton Court palace.  The youngsters were further treated to an evening of traditional Scottish music featuring bagpipes and haggis.  In addition, they explored the Scottish National Gallery and the National Gallery in London.  The last evening of the visit, the travelers enjoyed a performance of Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre, where it has been playing for 30 years.   Social Studies teacher Stephanie Matushoneck led the group.  She was assisted by Central English teachers Scott Paynter and Natalie Taylor.

In the next two years, the Global Classroom Program will be featuring trips to Iceland, Greece, Italy, Costa Rica, Japan, France and Spain.
