Rex Lundstrom, a senior at Westerville North High School, has been selected to receive Rotary District 6690’s Youth Exchange Scholarship.  As a result, he will depart in August for a year’s study in Japan.

This merit-based scholarship is being made possible thanks to the work and generosity of the Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club.  It covers the cost of room, board, tuition and a monthly stipend for one academic year of high school studies abroad.  Annually, about 1,800 U.S. students between the ages of 15 and 18.5 years old participate in this remarkable program.  Between now and his departure, Lundstrom will undergo extensive language training and preparation to be immersed in the Japanese culture.  He will serve as an ambassador, expected to well-represent his school, community, country and Rotary.

“Our two older children also received this scholarship, and their experiences overseas have been nothing short of life changing,” said Rex’s father, Walter Lundstrom.  “It’s amazing how many doors open to you when you’re a prior RYE Scholar, and are fluent in a new language and culture.  I would love for more parents and students in Westerville to know about this.”
