Fouse fifth graders experiment with sound.

Fouse Elementary School fifth graders recently participated in a science day of discovery and learning.  Seventh grade students from the Advance Science class at Genoa Middle School facilitated 20 different activities about energy for their younger peers.  Students learned about light, sound, force and motion, types of energy, heat, electricity, and more.  The Westerville Electric Division has sponsored this event for all fifth graders for many years.  More than 400 students from all the high schools and middle schools in Westerville have trained to be part of the Leadership Team.  They spend time facilitating hands-on activities for fifth grade youngsters across the district so they can deepen their understanding about energy and the conservation of energy.  As a follow up to this event, the children took home a survey to evaluate their families’ consumption of energy, with the goal of saving power in each household.
