On March 7, Westerville South High School freshman Evelyn Seitz, who studies Japanese through credit flex, was the third place winner in the Japan-America Society of Central Ohio (JASCO) high school speech contest held in Dublin.  She was the only freshman to be a finalist and the only student participant from Westerville.

Since 1999, high school and university students of Japanese from across the State of Ohio have been competing in this annual speech contest.  Competitors are judged on speech content, language ability, delivery, memorization, maintaining time limit and Question and Answer.
