Student-directed One Acts will be performed at 7:00 p.m. at Westerville South High School on Thursday evening, March 12. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $3 each. South is located at 336 South Otterbein Avenue. Matt Wolfe is Theatre Director at Westerville South.
The first play, Take 5, is a comedy by Westley M. Pederson. It is directed by Alexx Conrad, an Otterbein University theatre major. Imagine you are an actor on opening night trying to perform on a set that isn’t completed. Then one actor doesn’t show up, a man from the audience uses your stage phone to argue with his wife, the props either don’t work or are missing, the lighting and sound cues are off and two silly, incompetent stagehands do their worst. That’s only the beginning of this award-winning show which actually caused a woman in one audience to fall from her chair in laughter. This delightful play is filled with surprises and zany characters sure to entertain.
Driver’s Test, a comedy by Don Zolidis, is directed by Elise Wesley, a junior at Westerville South. No amount of parallel-parking practice can prepare sixteen-year-old Gail for “this” driver’s test. Dangerously insane, fun-loving DMV tester Margie is feeling the need for speed, is hot to hit the road, is...well, a terrible instructor. Can Gail pass her test even with someone urging her to push the speedometer to its limit and evade the police? Comedy levels go into overdrive as Margie takes Gail on the wildest ride of her life.
