Families turned out in droves to support their brilliant children and, in some cases, grandchildren.

Westerville North High School’s Academic Boosters celebrated the hard work of 246 students at the 29th annual Academic Awards Banquet, which was held on Tuesday evening, October 22.  Receiving certificates were 16 PSAT All Stars; National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist Jacqueline Kloos; National Achievement Scholarship Semi-Finalist Olamide Bola; and academically accomplished sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Academic Boosters President Tracey King organized the event, which was made possible with the help of many volunteers.  Principal Kurt Yancey greeted the packed house with words of welcome and congratulations.  Superintendent John Kellogg applauded the students for investing heavily – and wisely – in their education.  He predicted their efforts will pay off greatly in the future when they are able to secure good jobs and financial stability.

Keynote speaker Shannon Trusley, an English teacher, basketball coach, and Westerville North grad, focused his remarks on giving thanks.  He thanked the Academic Boosters, the administrative team, parents, and students, whom he called the “lifeblood of this school.”

“What you do is not normal – you do things the right way, the Warrior Way,” he said.  He put before them three challenges – to value and embrace the qualities they possess; to use their skills to lead and be role models; and to always remember to thank those who matter most in their life, starting right now.  “That’s leadership,” he concluded.
