The Cherrington Elementary Chess Club has seen a significant amount of success this year, a trend they hope to continue as they host the annual Westerville Elementary Chess Tournament on March 14, 2020.

Cherrington competed January 11, 2020, in Reynoldsburg at the Brain Freeze Tournament. The K-3 team took first place in its section and the 4-5 team placed second in its section. Several Cherrington Chess Club members also competed in the Clinton Elementary/Columbus Chess Academy Tournament on February 8, 2020. Both the K-3 grade team and the 4-5 grade team won first place in their respective section.

All entrants in this year’s Westerville Elementary Chess Tournament will play five rounds using Swiss Pairing, with every student receiving recognition for their participation. Trophies will be awarded to the top three schools and at least the top three players in each division. The registration fee to participate in this year’s tournament is $15. Interested individuals may download a registration form and contact event organizer Rachel Dew by email with any questions. Registrations are due by March 2, 2020.
