New friendships can begin on Cherrington’s Buddy Bench.
As part of her Senior Year Experience, student teacher Heather Jarvis worked with the PTA at Cherrington Elementary School to get a Buddy Bench placed on the third through fifth grade playground. It is designed to help children who are lonely; who are new to the school; or who are feeling sad. One of the important rules of the bench, says Jarvis, is that the youngster sitting on it cannot say “no” if they are asked to play. The bench is dedicated to the 5th grade leadership group.
