Mobile dentists from “Smile Programs” performed complete dental examinations on nearly 50 Cherrington pupils over a two-day span in December, representing more than 10 percent of the entire student body. Children received cleanings, fluoride treatments, x-rays and sealants, if needed. Research shows that many illnesses are related to poor dental hygiene. According to statistics, the mobile dentists may have saved 94.5 days of potentially missed school due to sickness.
Cherrington is proud to partner with Smile Programs for the fourth year in a row and support the effort to promote the importance of good oral hygiene and the prevention of tooth decay. Smile Programs was founded more than a decade ago to help children who were unable to access dental care and as a result, often suffered from poor oral hygiene, tooth decay, pain and associated medical problems. Services are delivered directly in the school setting which alleviates the time and transportation burden on parents and provides a safe, secure and often fun environment for the children.
