Each year, the State of Ohio requires public school buses to perform Emergency Evacuation Drills.  In Westerville, that happed this week with all buses and with students at every grade level.  Pupils are instructed about what they would be required to do in case of a real emergency, and then they practice.  Bus drivers are asked to:

  • Assign a place of safety 100 feet away from the bus;
  • Assign a student to gather evacuees at the place of safety;
  • Assign two students to help evacuees exit the back door;
  • Remember to activate their hazard lights;
  • Remember to leave backpacks on the bus; and
  • Remember to send the first aid kit with an evacuee.
