Families of Westerville City School District students in seventh and eighth grade are invited to attend an informational meeting regarding the district’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, which is located at Westerville South High School (WSHS). The meeting begins at 7 p.m. on January 23, 2020, in the WSHS Media Center, 303 S. Otterbein Avenue.

IB Diploma Program Coordinator Bill Heinmiller said Pre-IB courses are structured to prepare students for eventual enrollment in the IB Program, and that attending this information meeting is a great first step for middle school students to begin planning for their future participation in the program.

“We encourage students who intend to enroll in the IB program during their junior and senior years to first enroll in Pre-IB courses while they are in ninth and tenth grade,” Heinmiller explained. “Our information meeting gives our middle school students, along with their parents and guardians, an opportunity to hear from current and former IB students, teachers, and parents about the many benefits associated with this educational opportunity.”

The IB Program is a world class educational offering that meets the needs of highly motivated Grade 11 and 12 students. The program aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge, and who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.  IB students graduate with credentials that are recognized by leading universities across the US and around the world.

Heinmiller said families who live in an attendance area of a district high school other than WSHS can apply for administrative placement for the IB Program. Families living within WSHS attendance boundaries do not need to request administrative placement.
