The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, December 1.  December students are:  Megan Harris, Westerville North High School; Forlefac Fontem, Westerville South High School; and Cleo Yeager, St. Francis DeSales.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Chemistry, biology, anatomy and journalism are Megan Harris’ favorite subjects of study.  This Westerville North High School senior has earned a 4.9 grade point average (GPA).  School activities include lacrosse, cheerleading, National Honor Society, Key Club, Interact Club and the school newspaper.  She volunteers with the I Can program and at the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M.), and serves on the Attorney General’s Teen Advisory Board.  Harris has received a number of academic and athletic awards, and was selected to attend Buckeye Girls State.  She hopes to major in biological sciences at the University of North Carolina or Miami University of Ohio.

Westerville South senior Forlefac Fontem holds a 3.9 GPA and enjoys studying math and science.  At school he is involved in Black History Month, soccer, track and field, Robotics Club, French Club and the National Honor Society.  He is a community volunteer.  Fontem has received multiple academic letters and athletic accolades, along with a 2016 Wildcat Pride award.  He plans to major in computer science at The Ohio State University of the University of Cincinnati.

Cleo Yeager holds a 4.4 GPA at DeSales, where her favorite classes are anatomy, physiology and AP psychology.  She is secretary of the Latin Club, and participates in the Run the Race Club, Ronald McDonald Baking Club, Student Ambassadors and Math Club.  She is defensive coach for the St. Paul 5th and 6th grade girls’ lacrosse team.  Yeager is a member of the National Honor Society and the World Language National Honor Society, and received a St. Francis DeSales Merit Scholarship.  She wants to study biology at the University of Kentucky or Xavier.
