The Westerville City School District (WCSD) Board of Education on December 14, 2015, held a first reading to consider the approval of several high school courses of study, as well as resources for the new and revised English language arts (ELA) courses effective for the 2016-2017 school year. Interested families and community members will have through January 5, 2016, to review and provide feedback on the proposed revisions prior to the board vote to approve them.
Per House Bill 487, each school district is required to provide an opportunity for parents to review the selection of textbooks and reading lists, instructional materials, and the academic curriculum used by schools in the district. Several new and revised courses are being proposed. These suggested courses of study and resources (as applicable) have also been reviewed by the district’s High School Curriculum Council, which is a committee equally represented by teachers and administrators.
WCSD teachers and administrators over the past several months have developed these courses of study and applicable resources. The courses of study and ELA resources being considered at this time also will be made available at the Westerville Public Library.
