Westerville North High School AP Chemistry teacher Jeff Bracken was surprised on Tuesday, October 13, when his boss, Principal Kurt Yancey, walked into his classroom with representatives from Sunny 95 and Telhio Credit Union to announce that he had been named the October Teacher of the Month.  They brought a plaque and enough pizza for all his students.

Bracken was nominated for the honor by Westerville City Schools Superintendent John Kellogg, who said Bracken’s willingness to support any student who makes the decision to take this college level class is a key component of his success.  “Students take his class, even with its academic challenge, because they know Mr. Bracken is there to support them,” he wrote.  “In concert with his inclusive approach, Mr. Bracken has built a curriculum that provides many opportunities for students to experience the practical side of Chemistry.”

Bracken’s classes maintain several hydroponic gardens throughout the building, where pupils grow plants for sale to local establishments.

Sunny 95 defines Teacher of the Month as “an individual who has gone above and beyond in serving their kids, the school system, and/or their community.”  They partner with Telhio Credit Union, Donatos, and American Awards to recognize outstanding educators throughout Central Ohio.
