On Monday evening, April 8, the Westerville City Schools Board of Education, Superintendent John Kellogg, and Treasurer Nicole Marshall recognized 16 Westerville City Schools pupils who received accolades at the 2018/2019 Ohio PTA State Reflections competition. Three have advanced to the national contest – Mira Shyamalan (literature, Emerson); Isabella Williams (literature, Walnut Springs); and Payton Bame (photography, Mark Twain). This competition, now in its 50th year, recognizes student achievement in literature, music, dance, film/video production, photography and visual arts. The theme was “Heroes Around Me.”
This year, 146 students from 13 Westerville schools participated, with 90 entries advancing to the district competition. Fifty-five entries moved on to the state level contest, 16 of whom received awards. Program chair Jill French and co-chair Valerie Cumming organized the event for Westerville Parent Council, which serves as the sponsor for Reflections at the district level.
