Westerville North High School will host its second annual Chem Gems Holiday Sale on Friday December 14, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in room 247.  North is located at 950 County Line Road.  Chem Gems is an interdisciplinary business that teaches students how chemistry is used in the real world.  AP Chemistry students make soaps, bath bombs, shower bombs, and new this year, lip balms.  After production, special needs students help label and package the products.  Business students then market and bring the product to consumers.

Since this school year started, students have made more than 1000 bars of soap, 1,800 bath bombs, 400 shower bombs, and 300 tubes of lip balm.  They formed a wholesale relationship with Mohawk High School from Northwest Ohio, where their business students will sell North’s products to their school and community.  They also participated in three local craft fairs.  Proceeds from last year’s sales funded the purchase of four new bottle-filling drinking fountains at Westerville North.  The group also received the 41st Annual Leavey Award, and earned $7,500 to purchase additional supplies and equipment.  If you are unable to attend, please visit  www.wnchemgems.com to place an order.
