Westerville North’s Journalism II and Journalism III students attended the Jefferson Series Student Discussion at the Jeanne McCoy Center on October 25. Sixteen area schools and universities were represented at An Afternoon with Charles Osgood: A Life in Broadcasting.
Osgood shared stories from his 60+ years in journalism. Along with anecdotes, he offered advice to student journalists and opinions on the future of the profession. Along with his trademark of playing the piano and singing a song, he devoted more than half the time answering students’ questions.
Charles Osgood, a four-time Emmy Award-winning news anchor and author, spent 22 years hosting CBS Sunday Morning. Since 1971, he has combined poignant social commentary with an ability to find the irony and humor in everyday life as the anchor and writer of The Osgood Files, a radio program heard every weekday on 400 stations.
An icon of American journalism, Osgood also anchored the CBS Sunday Night News and has authored numerous books. All the students who attended received a complimentary copy of his book, Funny Letters from Famous People.
