In July, 10 student ambassadors were selected by the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Foundation Board to represent Ohio at the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) National Student Leadership Summit. Three were from Westerville City Schools -- Greg Shehee of Westerville North; and Emma Davidson and Maren Dorne of Westerville South. State athletic associations are members of the NFHS, which establishes rules for interscholastic athletic competitions.
The Westerville trio joined peers from Gahanna Lincoln and Thomas Worthington in Indianapolis to hear national experts in the field of leadership development. NFHS is currently sponsoring a “My Reason Why” campaign to promote interscholastic athletics through the voices of students who tell why they participate. Shehee will be featured in one of their national advertisements.
As an extension to this conference, OHSAA student ambassadors are now responsible for hosting the 2017 OHSAA Foundation Student Leadership Conference on Tuesday, October 3 at The Ohio State University. “Be the Best” is the theme for this gathering, where 1,500 students will meet, making it once again the largest student leadership conference in the nation. Led by professional speaker and event coordinator Harvey Alston, the conference will feature five individuals who will speak about leadership, achievement and overcoming adversity.
