Westerville North High School history teacher Dr. Ben Hartnell is selling “beardly” t-shirts this year to benefit The Hunt for Hope in memory of Lori Gill Grennan, a 1995 graduate of Westerville North who passed away in 2013.  As a high school student, she was a delegate to Girls’ State, captain of the Color Guard and Winter Guard, editor of the yearbook, and a member of the marching band.  Grennan received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University and a medical degree from Ohio University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.  After being diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer, Dr. Grennan founded Hunt for Hope, a nationwide charity that has raised more than $300,000 for cancer research. She was posthumously inducted into North’s Alumni Hall of Fame in 2015 in an emotional and memorable ceremony.  Dr. Hartnell says, “It my pleasure to help support Lori’s charity and partake in their annual scavenger hunt on October 1st.”

The shirts are for the service fraternity of “Hartnell University,” called Beta Rho Delta, something the popular and flamboyant teacher is starting this year to emphasize community service among his freshmen students.
