The Westerville Education Foundation (WEF) named three educators Teacher of the Month for May – Kelley Moff, Annehurst Elementary School; Ashley Frownfelter, Genoa Middle School; and Bethany Barlow, Westerville North High School.
Kelley Moff is described by her nominator, another teacher, as innovative and caring. “Mrs. Moff takes home a copy of whatever book we’re reading, calls the student on the phone, and listens to them read… I had never thought of doing that!” describes her nominator. Understanding the importance of continuing a student’s studies at home, Moff helps her students in any way she can to keep them moving forward. “Mrs. Moff has me reflecting on my practice as a teacher. Am I truly aware of the needs of my students outside of school? What more can I do to reach these needs?” Her nominator concludes by saying, “This family is truly blessed by the actions of Mrs. Moff.”
Ashley Frownfelter is described by her nominator as encouraging and supportive. “Ashley’s encouragement and true excitement about the subject matter she teaches is infectious,” her nominator said. Frownfelter goes above and beyond to make sure her students are provided every opportunity to grow and succeed no matter their obstacles. “Ashley went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that our son got the tools he needed to succeed by bringing him into the classroom for extra help during study hall, reading tests to him, and fully communicating his progress with us.” Her nominator concludes by saying, “Words can truly not express our gratitude for the time and dedication she has shown him.”
Bethany Barlow is described by her nominator as supportive and flexible. “Her communication is awesome! She responds quickly and is always concise,” says her nominator. Barlow understands that children have different styles of learning and works with each student to make sure they are successful. “She let the students complete a project for their midterm exam instead of doing an exam. This was a relief for [my son] who does not perform well on exams.” Her nominator concludes by saying, “She truly understands these kids’ needs and style of learning.”
