Twice in the past week, friends, family members, teammates and staff have gathered in the Westerville North High School Gallery to watch and celebrate as student athletes signed Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.

On March 9, friends Joe Legin and Dan Mayotte hosted a double reception, with Legin signing on to play baseball at Wilmington College and Mayotte announcing his intention to play tennis at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

Legin started playing baseball when he was five years old for the Blendon Westerville Little League, WYBSL, and then travel ball for the Westerville Hawks.  He is a two-year varsity player for Westerville North.  He is also a member of the beloved Purple Cows basketball team, which competes at the Westerville Recreation Center.  Legin has been an honors and AP student throughout high school, earning placement on Honor and Merit rolls.  He also received a Scholar Athlete Award.  He plans to study Sports Management at Wilmington.  His parents are Kristin and Tom Legin.

Mayotte has enjoyed his time at Westerville North, where he has made many friends and been an outstanding student.  Athletically, he played on the basketball and baseball teams his freshman year.  In his sophomore year he switched to tennis, where he has played #1 singles for the past two years and anticipates doing that again this season.  His record sophomore year was 18-7 and he went 17-8 as a junior.  Mayotte qualified for Districts both years and was awarded Most Valuable Player by Coach Rob Carlson each of the last two seasons.  Outside of high school, he works, plays on the Purple Cows rec basketball team, and is active in his church.  He, too, plans to pursue a major in Sports Management.  His parents are Stefanie and Chris Mayotte.

Brice Beverly’s reception was held on March 14.  He signed a Letter of Intent to play football at Tiffin University, where he will major in Sports Management and eventually pursue a career as an athletic director.  Beverly started his football career with the JFLW Dolphins, then Genoa Jaguars and, finally, all four years for the Westerville North Warriors.  During high school, he became a scholar athlete, a leader, and even Homecoming King.  His parents are Angela and Charles Beverly.
