The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at the Medallion Country Club held on Thursday, March 2. March students are Chloe Ey, Westerville Central High School; Josh Grant, Westerville North High School; Emily Hayman, Westerville South High School; and Max Freeman, St. Francis DeSales High School.
The purpose of the program is twofold: to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.” Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.
Chloe Ey, a junior at Westerville Central, holds a 3.95 grade point average (GPA). Math and Spanish are her favorite subjects of study. Ey participates in cross-country (Honorable Mention All-League) and track and field (All Ohio); is a member of the National Honor Society; and is a Junior Mentor. She has volunteered for Relay for Life, Night to Shine, the Daddy Daughter Dance and the holiday W.A.R.M. food drive. She is a five-season scholar athlete who also lettered in academics. Ey plans to study retail merchandising and fashion product development at Ohio University.
Josh Grant holds a 3.6 GPA at Westerville North, where he enjoys Government, Choir and Environmental Science. He is a varsity wrestler who also plays soccer. Grant serves on the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee and the Warrior Way Leadership Team. He volunteers for his church and for the special needs population in Columbus, along with the United Wrestling Club and Tops Soccer. He plans to attend Ohio Northern to pursue a degree in business management and play collegiate soccer.
English, Science, Band and Art are Emily Hayman’s favorite subjects. This Westerville South junior holds a GPA of 4.4073. She participates in the marching band and theatre, is a junior mentor and a tech leader. Hayman volunteers at the CHA Animal Shelter and community drama camps. She has earned an academic letter every year in high school, plus letters for band and theatre. She was Best in Class for theatre in 2015 and 2016, and received a Superior at the national level for sound. Hayman wants to major in sound design at DePaul University or the North Carolina School of the Arts.
Max Freeman is a senior at DeSales. He earned a 4.133 GPA and likes studying Math, Science and Italian (he is in the Italian National Honor Society). School activities include boys’ volleyball (Academic All-Ohio), peer ministry, the Italian Club and the National Honor Society. He coaches 4th and 5th grade girls’ volleyball; is a Kairos Retreat Leader; and a St. Joseph’s Coat volunteer. Freeman plans to study business at Ohio University.
