Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon and ½ Marathon and the Columbus Recreation & Parks Department has announced that Westerville North High School senior Mia Hoffman has been selected as one of six 2016 Lashutka scholarship winners. Her cross country coach, Johnny L. Jackson, recommended that she apply and he wrote a letter of recommendation, along with Athletic Director Wes Elifritz. The $1,000 award will be directed toward the first semester of Hoffman’s freshman year. She and the other winners were invited to attend an awards ceremony this evening where former Columbus Mayor Greg Lashutka will make the official presentation.
The Lashutka Scholarship Award was unveiled at the 20th anniversary of the Columbus Marathon to honor and recognize Mayor Lashutka’s efforts on behalf of the Marathon. Since then, a number of deserving high school seniors who excel in cross-country running, the classroom and leadership activities have received thousands of dollars in scholarship money.
