The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, October 1.  October students are:  Andrew Malick, Westerville North High School; and Lauren Morabito, St. Francis DeSales.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Malick, a senior at Westerville North, has earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 4.06.  His favorite subjects of study are science and history.  This class president is also team captain for varsity football, wrestling, and track and field.  He is a member of Student Council, the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, the Hydroponics Team and the Warrior Way Leadership Team.  He volunteers at numerous school events and in the community as well, where he is a part time City of Westerville employee and a Wounded Warrior Project Student Ambassador.  He has won numerous academic and athletic awards, and was selected as a delegate to Buckeye Boys State.  Malik participated in the Summer Leadership Experience at West Point and Summer Seminar at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Morabito is a senior at DeSales.  Math and science are her favorite subjects, and she holds a 4.1 GPA.  School activities include Flag Corps, Math Club, Chemistry Club and the National Honor Society.  She volunteers at the CHA Animal Shelter, is a Vacation Bible School leader, and shadowed at the My Vet Animal Hospital.  She is an AP Scholar and vice president of the Chemistry Club.  She plans to major in biology or zoology at The Ohio State University, and wants to continue her studies at the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine.
