Ohio Law Requires Vaccinations for 7th and 12th Grade Students

Beginning in the 2016-2017 school year, meningitis vaccine requirements for 7th and 12th graders were changed.

  • 7th grade students are required one dose of the meningitis vaccine and one dose of the Tdap vaccine.
  • 12th grade students are required one or two doses of the meningitis vaccine.  (If the first dose was given on or after the 16th birthday, the second dose is not required).

Check with your child’s pediatrician to make sure all immunizations, including boosters, are up to date.  Please provide updated immunization records to the school nurse as soon as possible.  Students, by law, will be excluded if they are not compliant, which affects both academics and sports participation.  Ohio law allows medical, religious and philosophical exemptions.

Please check with the Franklin County Public Health department for the 2019 Back to School Immunization clinic schedule.    For details, or to schedule an appointment, please call 614/525-3719 or visit https://myfcph.org/health-wellness/shots/.
