Westerville Central High School inducted two alumni into its Hall of Fame at a luncheon and ceremony held April 20 – Brandon Edwards and Alyssa Shumaker.  The school’s Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee selected those honored from a pool of applicants who graduated at least 10 years ago, have demonstrated success in their career, and have made significant contributions to their community.

Superintendent John Kellogg meets with the Student Advisory throughout the school year.  He praised the pupils for their honesty and respectful perspectives that help identify and find solutions to district-wide concerns.  He also thanked this year’s group of Hall of Fame inductees for the example they have set.

While attending Westerville Central High School, Brandon Edwards (Class of 2008) was co-founder and co-president of the Student Government, along with serving as Student Council Treasurer.  He was also a member of the National Honor Society, and was active on Advisory Committees for the Superintendent and Principal.  He was a National Merit Commended Scholar and was Student of the Month twice.  After graduating from high school, Edwards attended The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, cum laude.  Later, he attended Capital University Law School, where he received a doctoral degree in criminal litigation.  Edwards currently works as Assistant City Attorney.  He is also very involved with his community, having been elected as a Committeeman for the Delaware County Democratic Party and serving on the State Referee Committee for the Youth Soccer Association.  For four years, he has been President of the Undergraduate Student Government Alumni Society at The Ohio State University.  Kenny and Susannah Lee nominated Brandon Edwards for Westerville Central Alumni Hall of Fame induction.

Alyssa Shumaker, a 2007 graduate of Westerville Central High School, was in the top five percent of her graduating class.  She was active in theatre, choir and orchestra.  She was also responsible for starting and running Key Club at Central, which is still going strong.  After graduating from high school, Shumaker attended Lee University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Spanish and Religion.  She went to graduate school at Columbia University, where she received a Masters of Public Administration.  Since then, she has focused on jobs that involve international community service.  She worked for the Peace Corps, the World Economic Forum, the World Bank and the Columbia Water Center.  She currently lives in New York City and is employed by the International Rescue Committee as an Emergency Preparedness Program Manager.  In this role, she helps train more than 300 people in 11 countries to respond to emergencies and provide assistance.
