The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, December 14.  December students are Nathan Forrest, Westerville Central High School; Brice Wilson, Westerville North High School; Grace Yingling, Westerville South High School, and Alexandria Foos, St. Francis DeSales High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Nathan Forrest, a senior at Westerville Central, holds a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 4.47.  History is his favorite subject of study.  He participates in track and cross-country; is a member of the National Honor Society; volunteers in his church youth group; and serves as a tutor at Woodward Park Middle School.  This scholar-athlete was selected to attend Buckeye Boys State.  Forrest plans to major in Political Science at the United States Naval Academy or Miami University in Ohio.  He is interested in a career in the Navy and law.

Westerville North senior Brice Wilson enjoys studying Math, Engineering and Science.  His current GPA is 4.01.  At school, he is active in cross-country, wrestling, track and the Environmental Protection Club.  He served as a Westerville United wrestling coach, organized a Land Lab clean-up committee, and was an Engineering Shop volunteer.  Wilson is a scholar-athlete who earned varsity letters in two sports, and has been recognized for Academic Excellence.  He wants to major in Mechanical Engineering at the Naval Academy.  He expressed gratitude for the teachers and faculty at North who have helped him achieve his goals and dreams.

Westerville South senior Grace Yingling, who enjoys Business and History, has earned a 4.44 GPA.  She is a member of Student Council, and has volunteered for Homecoming, Caring & Sharing, and the National Honor Society, where she spearheaded the blood drive.  Away from school, Yingling teaches sailing and Irish Dance, and volunteers at her church.  She attended Buckeye Girls State and earned a Business Department award.  She hopes to study Business Administration at the University of Dayton.

Alexandria Foos is a senior at DeSales, where she holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA.  At school, she participates in tennis, gymnastics, track and field, Spanish Club, Junior State of America, Stallions for Life, Student Ambassadors and Math Club.  She has volunteered at the St. Paul Youth Ministry, the St. Paul Teen Choir, the Joey Castrodale Memorial Golf Outing, Shatteproof, and Special Olympics.  Foos attended Buckeye Girls State, and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.  She won the Golden Racquet Award in tennis and has received a number of academic accolades.  She is still considering her post-high school options.
