An essay written by Westerville Central student Lauren Watts has earned Honorable Mention at the State Level of the Letters about Literature competition.  Her letter to author Paula Danziger competed against 424 letters submitted statewide in the high school division for this year’s contest.  Junior Justin Santa’s letter to J. R. R. Tolkien took him to the second round of the state competition.

Letters about Literature is a reading and writing contest in which students are asked to write to the author (living or dead) about how a book they read affected them personally.  Letters are judged on state and national levels.  Tens of thousands of students from across the country enter this contest each year.  State winners earn several hundred dollars in prize money, and national winners are eligible for a $1,000 prize.
