The eighth annual Field of Heroes, presented by the Rotary Club of Westerville Sunrise, will take on a new look this year.  In addition to the spectacular visual display of some 3,000 American flags, thousands of ceramic poppies will be added to the mix in tribute to women who have served in the military.  Westerville Central piloted the poppy making efforts on behalf of the Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club.  Using this initial design, more than a dozen schools joined in the effort in addition to hundreds of residents during multiple community poppy-making sessions.

The Field of Heroes will take place from Friday, May 27, to Monday, May 30 in the soccer fields across the street from the Westerville Community Center on Cleveland Avenue.  The event is a unique opportunity for community members to honor their personal heroes, whoever they are – a family member, friend, veteran, member of the armed services, favorite teacher, police officer, firefighter or any other person who has made an impact on their lives.   It will also include a Saturday Opening Ceremony, a Sunday Memorial Ceremony in Tribute to Women in the Military, and a 5K Run/Walk benefiting the USO and sponsored by OhioHealth.  The poppies will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the weekend events.

Volunteers are needed and donations are appreciated.  Learn more at www.fieldofheroes.org.
