The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at the Medallion Club held on Thursday, December 3.  December students are:  Jacob Glorioso, Westerville Central High School; Alana Reese, Westerville North High School; Kieley Stroupe, Westerville South High School; and Julia Brown, St. Francis DeSales High School.

The purpose of the program is twofold:  to recognize outstanding students who have distinguished themselves by serving their school and to expose them to the Rotary Club and its ideal of “Service Above Self.”  Students selected join Rotarians for lunch every week for a month, and have the opportunity to interact with members.

Jacob Glorioso, a junior at Westerville Central, holds a 3.6 grade point average (GPA).  His favorite subjects of study are Chemistry and Band.  Glorioso is Field Commander for Central’s marching band.  He also performs in the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band, and is active in theater as well.  Glorioso is a junior mentor who devotes much of his free time volunteering at Children Supporting Children, a non-profit he co-founded in 2009.  His charitable efforts have earned him a number of awards, including the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Youth in Philanthropy Award, and WARM’s Hand Up Award.  He hopes to major in Secondary Education at Ohio State or Otterbein University.

Kieley Stroupe is a senior at Westerville South High School, where she enjoys studying Math and Science.  In addition to maintaining a 4.2 GPA, Stroupe plays varsity golf (captain, MVP, Honorable Mention), is a wrestling statistician, has served as an office helper for two years, and plays viola in the school orchestra.  She also holds part time jobs at Royal American Links and the Westerville Golf Center.  In 2014 she was named Science Student of the Year.  Stroupe plans to major in Exercise Physiology/Pre-Physical Therapy at a major university.

Advanced Biology and Anatomy are Julia Brown’s favorite courses.  She is a senior at St. Francis DeSales High School, where her current GPA is 4.286.  At school she participates in Volleyball, Peer Ministry, Math Club, Spanish Club, Stallions for Life, Student Ambassadors and Run the Race.  She has volunteered in food drives for the Westerville Area Resource Ministry, at fish fries, at the Harris Askins House, and in the July 4th parade.  In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society, Brown earned Honorable Mention All-State, First Team and All League and District honors.  She was also nominated as an Under Armor All American.  She plans to major in Exercise Science of Pre-Physical Therapy at the University of Dayton.
