Scholarships send select middle school students to annual Be WISE Camp

The Westerville Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), with cooperation from the Westerville City Schools Gifted Education Department and middle school science teachers, recently awarded four Westerville City School District students with $325 scholarships to the annual Be WISE Camp at Kenyon College.

Scholarship recipients are in the sixth grade and include Shira Baumann, Blendon Middle School; Rachel Ta, Genoa Middle School; Kyra Holmes, Heritage Middle School; and Josephine Ryjewski, Walnut Springs Middle School. 

Be WISE is a mathematics, science and technology camp for girls entering grades 7 or 8 in the fall of 2020. It features a separate curriculum for each grade level that emphasizes hands-on activities in math and science. This residential camp for 160 girls will be held from June 7-12, 2020. Registration deadline is April 1st. For more information, visit http://www.bewisecamp.org. This summer is the camp’s 31st anniversary. In that time, over 3,700 girls have participated.
