Four Middle School Students Earn Scholarships to Be WISE Camp at Kenyon College

The Westerville Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW; http://www.aauw.org), in cooperation with the Westerville City Schools Gifted Education Department and science teachers, has awarded four $325 scholarships to the Be WISE Camp at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio from June 9-14.  Recipients are sixth grade students Emma Lee (Blendon), Daria Lesmerises (Genoa), Anna Morris (Heritage), and Ava Graves (Walnut Springs).  AAUW representative Claire Fohl and BeWise Camp Director and Founder JoAnn Benseler met with the recipients and family members at an informational meeting and reception held on Monday, May 6.  Former Blendon Be WISE scholarship recipient and current Westerville South High School junior Ruthie Curry shared her experiences as a camper and now camp counselor.

Be WISE is a mathematics, science and technology camp for girls entering grades 7 or 8 in the fall of 2019.  It features a separate curriculum for each grade level emphasizing hands-on activities in math and science.  Learn more at http://www.bewisecamp.org.
